THE FUTHERISTIC WATCHES

Image
THE FUTHER OF WATCHES   The Apple Watch Ultra is the most advanced wearable that Apple has produced to date. It is a hardcore device meant for equally hardcore athletes and adventurers. Everything from its look, though its packaging and to its marketing serves as a testament to that fact. Let me start by saying this… I am no athlete. Nor am I going on an adventure to destroy the One Ring (or the Ultra, which could well be equally difficult to tear apart). But I still ended up using the Apple Watch Ultra for quite some time. I even tried to replace my smartphone with it. The Apple Watch Ultra from a casual buyer's perspective: Why it (may) be worth it And I cannot help but say that this is the first wearable that I do not hate. For the record, I have never been particularly fond of the concept as a whole. Nevertheless, the nerd inside me cannot deny the fact that the Ultra is a wildly impressive piece of technology. Thus, I have been looking for ways to justify owning one, despite n...

THE HISTORY OF WRIST WATCHES

THE RAREST FIRST COLLECTION The beginning: From the pocket watch to the wristwatch Nothing has shaped our present understanding of time as much as the invention of the wristwatch. In everyday life, people wear it out of normality. In reality, wristwatches are two centuries old and have made a lot of development since its introduction.  The need to measure time has existed for several millennia: 5,000 years ago, the ancient Egyptians invented the sundial. Its circular design and time periods have helped shape the appearance of modern watches. Reading the time was dependant on sunlight and therefore only possible during the day. The first watch that was not dependant on sunlight was the water clock. It was followed by the hourglass and the the wheel clock in the 14th century. The latter already contained the first basic elements that can currently be found in mechanical watches, but was very inaccurate. It was equipped with a so called “Unrast” – a less accurate predecessor of the ba...

Yet, during the most intense part of the conflict, fighters found they lacked the opportunity to fish around for a pocket watch. So the men's wristwatch was conceived. After the conflict, this better approach for wearing a watch changed into regular citizen use. At first derided by the general population as a senseless pattern, men's wristwatches before long turned into the standard and their reasonableness made pocketwatches out of date.
